Organic Gardening and Organic Food
Today the population in the USA is obese and unhealthy. The most inexpensive foods tend to have the highest fat content. To save money we purchase high fat foods. To top that off, our fat inducing food is tainted with pesticides, antibiotics, hormones and many times deadly bacteria. Our choices for fresh produce and vegetables and other food stuffs are limited to our local supermarkets, cheap fast food outlets or restaurants. These choices will not tell you where your foods come from or what possible dangerous products were used to grow these foods. Your beef may come from Mexico, your grapes from Argentina and your tomatoes from Chile. Even when it come from the USA there is no guarantee that mad cow, e coli, salmonella or some other as yet unknown disease isn’t tagging along.
What’s our solution? The best solution is safe, nutritious and still cheap foods grown your own in your own garden. But who has the time and energy to plant their own garden let alone the green thumb and available land;to be able to harvest your own delicious, nutritious and safe food for your family. Up to about 50 years ago, gardening was very important for most families. Growing up on a small farm in central Mississippi, I know it was for my family. The garden provided low cost food and nutrition and we always knew where our food came from. We had chickens and eggs, cows with fresh milk and butter and pigs and pork we raised ourselves. We knew it was safe food for our family to eat. With time and energy being precious very few of us have the luxury of having and tending their very own garden.
What then is the answer? How about free Organic Food… If you could have your own organic garden full of organic produce and vegetables, access to thousands of other safe organic foods priced as low or lower that your local store and have them delivered to your front door; then I have to ask, wouldn’t that be better than driving to the store for that bag of chips and cola?
