Car Accessories – the Perfect Gift
It’s that season again, and you want to give your teenager a gift they want, then brush up on your car accessory knowledge with this tutorial. Once you know the jargon and you listen well, you’ll be able to decrypt what they want under the tree for Christmas.
Lately, it’s all about the wheels – the all important link between the car and the tires. Some like to select brilliantly hued, bulge acorn lug nuts or a cool center cap for rims of chrome, gun metal or customized color. Others slap on a set of stylish spinners, adopting the fashion of hip-hoppers like 50 Cent, Nelly and Redman. Lights under the carriage have been taking off. It’s eye catching to say the least.
Just a Few Terms to Get You Started:
• Spinners are bolted onto your rims and spin on bearings, that gives your wheels an interesting perception of movement. Since they move independent of the rims spinners spin around even when the wheel is stopped, energized by the law of momentum, sliding along on their bearings with little opposition from the wheel itself.
• A factory center cap is what is in place in the center of the wheel when you buy the car from a dealer. To jazz up your ride, grab a set of trick wheel center caps and let your rims shine.
• Center caps can be snapped into place when upgrading your tires with aftermarket rims. The caps cover the center of the rim and can have all manner of patterns – domestic or foreign logos, even a concept design. A tip for acquiring center caps for rims on the cheap is to check local salvage yards. Don’t forget the web; there are plenty of suppliers who would be glad to help you find the perfect set of caps.
• Aftermarket rims are rims purchased from a third party manufacturer and not from the car manufacturer that add style to your ride. These are usually coupled with center caps for rims that either come as a set or can be bought separately from a dealer.
• Hub caps are wheel covers that protect the lug nuts and rim by attaching to and covering the whole rim.
• LED lights can be added to your car wheels. The diodes emit a glowing light and are powered by small long-life batteries.
• Wheel spacers give extra width to the wheels and tires, shifting them out towards the fenders. You get an aggressive appearance and improved handling, too.
